We are a hardy bunch and will keep serving unless we have strong winds or extreme weather, The Lobster Shed team will make a call that morning as to whether we will need to close for the day. All bookings for that day will be contacted BY EMAIL to let them know that their booking will need to be re-arranged for a future date.

Walk-ins

If no table times are available when you book online it's because all pre-booked tables have been taken. We welcome drop-in dining at The Lobster Shed with no need to book, however we operate on a first-come first-served basis.

Please be aware though we do our very best to accommodate walk-in diners, there is a possibility that we will not be able to find you a table on our busier days so we would absolutely encourage you to book in advance to avoid disappointment.

The National Lobster Hatchery

The National Lobster Hatchery is a marine conservation, research and education charity based in Padstow, who have established themselves as a centre of expertise in marine science on a global scale. Their work focuses on the European lobster, a commercial species that is the most valuable fish caught in the UK and is part of a major export industry; this one species alone is worth £45m each year and without it, the small coastal communities would have very little, other than tourism, to create jobs and keep the harbour alive. Lobster is worth a huge amount economically and socially, and consequently, fisheries around the world are suffering from major over-exploitation.

The charity’s conservation work focuses on enhancing the stocks of lobsters in the coastal waters of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. A female lobster can carry in the region of 20,000 eggs under their abdomen, however only one of these is expected to survive in the wild. With skilful and careful application of modern technology The National Lobster Hatchery can improve this survival rate significantly. For every lobster sold at The Lobster Shed we will donate £1 to The National Lobster Hatchery’s ‘Buy One – Set One Free’ campaign. By supporting our local fisherman and using local lobster we are reducing their food miles – when they could have been headed for London or exported directly to Spain and France.

The National Lobster Hatchery also have a Visitor Centre so you can learn all about their work and meet the lobsters.
